As crafted by its two founders, English art educator Walter Smith and Boston Brahmin arts impresario Charles Callahan Perkins, the new institution would produce drawing teachers required in schools throughout the Commonwealth, while at the same time educating professional artists, designers, architects, and scientists. The goal would be to educate men and women in the creative process, not merely train them to draw. The Colleges of the Fenway consortium gives MassArt students additional shared access to facilities of five other nearby schools, including their library, athletics, and theatrical resources. MassArt students (with ID) also have free admission to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum; Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; and the Danforth Museum of Art; the ISGM is across the street, and the MFA is a short walking distance from campus.

We do this through architecture, landscape design, furniture design, engineering, planning, research, construction, film, and community engagement. The campus of Massachusetts College of Art and Design is located on the lands of indigenous tribes, such as the Wampanoag and Massachusett. We make this land acknowledgment to pay respect to these communities – past, present, and future – and recognize the painful history of erasure and ongoing violence toward indigenous people in North America and across the world. We acknowledge this part of our history to affirm our values to pursue a more just, compassionate, and equitable learning environment. We make groundbreaking contemporary art accessible to our community and the world—free of charge. We invite everyone to experience contemporary art, exchange ideas, and be part of the MAAM community.

Murder in Boston

The CD+M project reinforces campus-wide internal connections as well as external connections with outside professional collaborators, adjacent institutions such as the colleges of the Fenway, the Isabella Gardner Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. To those of you who followed us on our digital journey—thank you for inviting us into your homes. Despite challenges and hardships we enjoyed live virtual drawing sessions with community members across the globe; seeing what your children created at your kitchen tables during our Saturday morning Art & Stories program; and bringing art to virtual classrooms when teachers and students needed inspiration the most. As we ease back into in-person gatherings, we will build on our recent experiences and apply lessons we’ve learned, keeping some of our online programs and refining new ones.MAAM is always evolving, always welcoming, always free. Massachusetts College of Art and Design, branded as MassArt, is a public college of visual and applied art in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1873, it is one of the nation's oldest art schools, the only publicly funded independent art school in the United States, and was the first art college in the United States to grant an artistic degree.

MAAM builds meaningful relationships with individuals and institutions in order to spark positive change in our community. The renovation of and transformation to MAAM was the result of the largest private fundraising effort in the college’s history and we are grateful to the generous individuals and organizations who shared our belief that contemporary art should be experienced without boundaries or barriers. Our public grand opening on February 22, 2020 drew lines around the block, but thirteen days later, MAAM closed due to COVID-19.

As MassArt's teaching museum, we are committed to educating and empowering the next generation of artists—both on our campus and throughout the world. Massachusetts College of Art and Design is a public, independent college of art and design. The college’s professional baccalaureate and graduate programs prepare students to participate in the creative economy as fine artists, designers, and art educators, and to engage in the well being of their society. As a national leader in visual art and design education, the college influences contemporary culture through the accomplishments of its alumni and the creative activities of its faculty and staff.

The Studio for Interrelated Media (SIM) undergraduate major is designed for student artists interested in a curriculum that supports idea-centered, interdisciplinary, and non-media specific artistic practice, alongside autonomous and collaborative working strategies and self-governance. In 2009, the Campus Center (located in the Kennedy building, at the corner of Huntington and Longwood avenues) was renovated, with additions of a new, two-story glass facade on Longwood Avenue, food services, and the college bookstore. The lower level includes ReStore, a student-run freecycling space to accept and redistribute surplus art supplies, materials, tools, equipment, and publications free of charge. MassArt is located on Huntington Avenue, which has been designated and signed as "The Avenue of the Arts" in Boston. The campus is also adjacent to the Longwood Medical Area, and its immediate neighbors on Longwood Avenue include Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Nearby neighbors along Huntington Avenue include the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (ISGM), the Museum of Fine Arts, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA), and the Wentworth Institute of Technology.

As a kunsthalle, or non-collecting museum, MAAM’s exhibitions are current, resonant, and relevant. MAAM proudly serves as the teaching museum for MassArt and has a passionate mission to educate, inspire, and empower future generations of artists, designers, and educators—both on campus and beyond. For prospective first-year students. You will learn about MassArt’s undergraduate academic and co-curricular programs that prepare students from diverse backgrounds to participate in the creative economy as artists, designers, and educators. The informational session will cover topics such as MassArt's student experience and admissions requirements.

The essential operation of the Graphic Design Department is to provide students with an educational environment in which to explore theoretical, practical and technical applications relative to a variety of design problems. Through a sequenced combination of required courses in the major, studio electives, technical workshops and computer lab-based courses, students are exposed to intensive critique as well as discussions and lectures. They learn to speak intelligently about their own work and the work of their classmates, in preparation for the increasingly team-based professional environment in which they will find themselves upon graduation. As the teaching museum of MassArt, we help students, educators, and the community to experience the power of art.

It is a member of the Colleges of the Fenway (a resources- and facilities-sharing collegiate consortium located in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area of Boston), and the ProArts Consortium (an association of seven Boston-area colleges dedicated to the visual and performing arts). MassArt supports its longstanding mission through public programs and educational offerings for local schools to make art and design accessible for all. This effort focused upon translating the college's priorities into a building program that enhances the academic and collaborative environment of the Design and Media programs, while creating a sustainable new signature building on campus.

The college also offers certificate programs in Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Furniture Design, and Industrial Design. The Fall 2016 undergraduate enrollment was 1648, graduate enrollment was 132 and continuing education enrollment was 260. The MassArt Art Museum (MAAM) is Boston’s only free contemporary art museum, a space to experience works by visionary artists at the forefront of contemporary art.

Further along "The Avenue of the Arts" are Northeastern University, the Boston University Theatre, Boston Symphony Hall, Horticultural Hall, and the New England Conservatory of Music. During its first decade, the state rented space for the school in several locations including Boston's Pemberton Square, School Street, and the Deacon House mansion on Washington Street. In 1886, the state built the school's first building at the corner of Exeter and Newbury Streets, and then in 1929 moved the school to its second built campus at Longwood and Brookline Avenues. In 1983, MassArt was relocated to the former campus of Boston State College at the corner of Longwood and Huntington Avenues, after the latter school's merger with the University of Massachusetts Boston. Boston has designated Huntington Avenue as the "Avenue of the Arts", in recognition of the location of MassArt, the Museum of Fine Arts, School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, Boston Symphony Hall, and other educational and cultural institutions along this thoroughfare.

Human Design Gate 14 Possession in Great Measure The Gate of Power Skills

human design gate 14

I personally don’t see Human Design that way and think you should start at whatever points gets you experimenting instead of just learning. That is the whole purpose of the Human Design Map that I make – I want to provide so much detailed information that the only left to do is actually experiment. In my post on the incarnation cross, I explain the significance of the conscious sun, conscious earth, unconscious sun, and unconscious heart. And you can and use this library of gates to help you understand the gates that are in yours. Everyone has hanging gates in their chart and they play a significant role in how we relate to others.

What Are Channels in Human Design?

A natural tendency towards caution in social situations; idealistic and places enormous value on art, and especially language. Highly eloquent and influential when communicating – able to deeply affect others. The energy for being a role model and making an independent and influential public statement, in order to promote an ideal.

How Do Gates Work in Human Design?

While Gate 14 bestows upon an individual the power of drive and the will to succeed, it’s not without its challenges. One of the primary challenges lies in the pulsing nature of the energy. Understanding that their energy levels might fluctuate, and not forcing themselves to be constantly active, can help them manage their resources more effectively. People with Gate 14 in their design are often self-driven and have a deep desire to achieve. They are likely to be proactive, taking initiative and responsibility for their journey and outcomes. However, this drive needs to be paired with an understanding of what they truly desire, or it may lead to dissatisfaction and burnout.

Human Design Gate 16 Enthusiasm - The Gate of Skills

The most important thing is that you do something you love and a signpost for that is also that you are satisfied with the return you get from that. You have with Gate 14 the potential to use material abundance to support others, be they visionaries, regents, benefactors, artists, sages, etc. Having Human Design Gate 54 in my midheaven contributes to this understanding, for sure. I had to own the part of me that loves to love her work, to use it as a spiritual practice, and to make mind blowing money doing it. While my husband was at work, I’d talk to my clients, work on my website, and create enough content for lifetimes.

Defined Gate 14 in an Undefined Sacral Center

The Gate of Desire, located in the Solar Plexus Center, symbolizes the driving force of passion and desire that fuels personal growth and transformation. Lastly, as individuals with the 2-14 Channel navigate their path of personal growth, they may find that a strong desire marks their journey for material and sensual pleasures. Understanding and integrating this aspect of their nature can be a powerful part of their personal development. In the Human Design System, the interaction of Gate 14 with other gates plays a crucial role in shaping an individual’s experience and expression of their energy. When connected with a harmonious gate, Gate 14’s drive and power can be channeled effectively, leading to the manifestation of successful outcomes.

Gate 14 in the Context of Personal Growth

Failing to trusts in your own intuition due to a lack of evidence can to frustration and bitterness. This energy controls the rules the community lives by, upholding or challenging the laws to ensure they continue to align with values. Growth and humanity in emotional turbulence and times of crisis, with an empathetic disposition for extending compassion towards yourself and others. A natural leader, but only truly effective and influential in their leadership when recognised, elected, and accepted by the group. This energy is concerned with the soul, and the unconditional love of whatever form of spirituality you prescribe to. Gifted in verbal communication of innovative and profound concepts and insights, with a natural ability to express truth with clarity and sensitivity.

Gates 18-58, Judgment Channel

They typically, consistently have the capacity to work for money in their life. This energy comes directly from the center of workforce energy after all. The Gate of Doubt, located in the Head Center, reflects the ability to question and critically assess information and beliefs, fostering a sense of discernment and intellectual integrity. Individuals with this gate activated possess a natural skepticism and curiosity, often using their analytical skills to explore new ideas and challenge established norms.

In the below image, a few of the hanging gates in my chart are circled in orange. These tend to be more generational than personal because of the long transit time. Depending on which side (or sides) of the chart that the gate is defined, it will be colored in black or magenta. In the I Ching, Hexagram 14, often translated as "Great Possession," symbolizes abundance, prosperity, and the responsibility that comes with great wealth or resources. Instead of merely seeking external validation, let your pursuits be driven by a deeper purpose, a higher calling. A potential tendency towards over-ambition, greed, or a relentless quest for material success at the cost of spiritual or emotional well-being.

They are often able to handle responsibility well, striving to ensure the success of their team or organization. The interaction of Gate 14 with Gate 29, the ‘Gate of Saying Yes’, can also be interesting. This combination can lead to a strong commitment to goals, bolstered by the drive and determination of Gate 14. However, the challenge lies in ensuring that the commitment is towards meaningful and satisfying pursuits. And it starts with individuals who are willing to step up, say fuck the system, and make changes.

The official name for Human Design Gate 14 is The Gate of Power Skills. But I call it The Prosperity Lumen because its primary action is to create prosperity by doing work you love and inspiring others to do the same. Next with my gates in Saturn, I am designed to gather my tribe (Gate 45) together for progress (Gate 35). The Gate of Stimulation, situated in the Throat Center, symbolizes the ability to inspire and engage others through captivating communication and storytelling. Those with this gate activated are often seen as charismatic and influential, able to capture the attention of their audience and convey their message with passion and creativity. Four channels are not included in any circuit, known as the integration channels.

The low-frequency expression is the energy for misalignment due to getting stuck in the fear that you won’t be able to make your dreams come true. This can create a life where you feel stuck doing things you hate for the sake of making money. This gate makes sure that you immediately recognize and empower people who know who they are and where they’re going in life.

Gate 60 thrives within clear boundaries, using creativity to transcend challenges. The energy of gate 58 is about experiencing profound joy, simply from being alive. The gate of ambition and drive, to be successful in business and in terms of status. Must be cautious of unrealistic expectations and quitting when results are not immediate. The energy for standing up and fighting for the things you believe in. A strong sense of justice and finding meaning and fulfilment through campaigning for these ideals.

The different colours on each side of the BodyGraph denote different elements of characteristics. Each gate represents a specific potential trait or characteristic, which when defined is activated. As with open centers, gates which remain white are undefined and are a vulnerability in your character. Your Human Design profile is an overview of activated (coloured red and/or black) gates in your personal chart. It’s determined according to your birth data and where the planets were positioned in relation to each gate and its six lines, both at the time of your birth and 88 days prior.

If Gate 14 is defined for you in an undefined centre it is considered dormant. It will be activated when you are with someone who has Gate 2 (the Gate of Direction of Self) defined OR when a planetary transit defines Gate 2. The themes of hanging gates in undefined centres often play out in relationships.

WHAT ARE THE UX FRAMEWORKS? WHY USE THEM? by Thilina Sanjeewa

framework design

If customization and speed are important to your development project, then Tachyons is just for you. Its simple and lightweight toolkit makes it a popular choice in the dev world. Straying away from unnecessary complexities, UIKit offers a comprehensive set of pre-styled components. Tailwind CSS is a great framework to use if you want an efficient and developer-friendly tool to build your application’s UI.

The Basics of Page Layout Design (+25 Page Layout Design Ideas)

Many top companies use the Bootstrap framework such as Airbnb, Netflix, Uber, etc. Each of these web frameworks has its weaknesses and strengths, making them ideal for distinct scenarios. Choosing the right framework depends on your unique project’s requirements and your development team’s proficiency.

Stage 5 in the Design Thinking Process: Test

If they can’t proceed with the prototype they go back to the previous step and conduct more tests until they find the best solution. Yes, design frameworks should evolve based on market trends, user feedback, and technological advancements to remain effective and relevant. Feedback is super important for making our design framework better. When we ask users for their thoughts using surveys, testing, and analytics, we learn a lot about what they like and how they use our stuff.

Best Automation Mobile Testing Tools and Frameworks

In this step, UX designers research how users interact with the product or similar products. In the future, designs will have to be both personal and trustworthy. It’s important for companies to be open about how they use your data and get your permission. Setting up clear ways to communicate and handle problems is important to avoid issues and keep things running smoothly when putting the design framework into action.

Many frameworks are designed with scalability and flexibility in mind. They provide features like database abstraction layers, caching mechanisms, and load balancing support, which help applications handle increased traffic or changes in requirements. Frameworks also enable developers to extend or customize their functionalities according to specific project needs.

You need to have basic knowledge about the chosen programming language in order to efficiently work with the framework. Frameworks allow developers to work on the application logic rather than focusing on minute details and writing basic functionalities. The design thinking process should not be seen as a concrete and inflexible approach to design; the component stages identified should serve as a guide to the activities you carry out. The stages might be switched, conducted concurrently or repeated several times to gain the most informative insights about your users, expand the solution space and hone in on innovative solutions.

It facilitates the development of dynamic, single-page applications (SPAs). AngularJS follows the MVVM (Model-View-ViewModel) architectural pattern, enabling developers to build responsive and interactive user interfaces. It provides powerful data binding, dependency injection, and component-based architecture. These frameworks are designed to simplify the development of web applications by providing a structure and set of tools. They often include features like routing, database integration, session management, and user authentication. For example, Ruby on Rails follows the MVC architectural pattern and includes a wide range of built-in functionalities, making it efficient for building web applications.

In contrast, design thinking is a problem-solving approach that centers the design process on the user. Together, they both foster cross-functional collaboration and continuous iteration. The Smalltalk programming language, developed at PARC by Alan Kay and his team, introduced the concept of objects and classes, laying the foundation for object-oriented programming (OOP).

framework design

Design teams use these frameworks to guide decision-making and solve problems. UX design framework is a valuable tool that helps us create user-centered, consistent, and efficient digital experiences. It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution but rather a flexible guideline that can be adapted to different projects. In design thinking, teams may jump from one phase to another, not necessarily in a set cyclical or linear order.

The design sprint is a very structured version of design thinking that fits into the timeline of a sprint (a sprint is a short timeframe in which agile teams work to produce deliverables). Developed by Google Ventures, the design sprint seeks to fast-track innovation. While design thinking and agile teams share principles like iteration, user focus, and collaboration, they are neither interchangeable nor mutually exclusive. In this video, Laura Klein, author of Build Better Products, describes a typical challenge designers face on agile teams. She encourages designers to get comfortable with the idea of a design not being perfect.

Inconsistencies in product design occur when there is improper management usually resulting from the absence of a guide. These situations are most likely to occur at advanced stages in the design process when teams make changes to an existing design on the fly or even during development runtime. If we didn’t use software frameworks, developing applications would be akin to constructing a building without a blueprint or using prefabricated materials.

These frameworks are designed to develop large-scale enterprise applications that often require complex functionalities and integration with existing systems. They provide features for security, scalability, and modular architecture. Java EE, for example, offers a comprehensive set of APIs for building enterprise applications, including support for database connectivity, messaging, and web services.

Interface for Processes

Use the Interpreter Pattern when there is a language to interpret and you can represent statements in the language as abstract syntax trees. Behavioral Patterns are concerned with algorithms and the assignment of responsibilities between objects. If you’re building an application program (such as a document editor or spreadsheet), then internal reuse, maintainability, and extension are high priorities. At the end of the day, designing within a system will not completely transform the way work gets done.

design patterns elements of reusable

Best Insulated Reusable Grocery Bag

Instead of using numerous constructors, the builder pattern uses a builder object, that instantiates and initializes objects using a multiple of steps. Using inheritance is recommended mainly when adding to the functionality of existing components, reusing most of the old code and adding relatively small amounts of new code. This object is sent to a receiver which executes the command. The advantage of this technique is that the requests can be queued, logged or implemented to support undo/redo.

Common terms and phrases

Chiefly, the canvas is waxed to resist scratches and guard against the elements, and it’s both leakproof and insulated. It’s also versatile enough for situations outside the grocery store; it’d make a great weekender bag, for example. Keep in mind there’s only one external pocket that’s best for small items. When choosing the best reusable grocery bags, small details greatly affect the ease of running ... Creational Patterns become more important as systems evolve to depend more on object composition than class inheritance.

What Kind Of Reusable Bag Is Best?

It shows that you can always replace inheritance with object composition as a mechanism for code reuse. Here, flexibility is needed because design patterns will iterate over time. However, while it is easy to change the color of a button, the greater system complexity must be considered at all times. While it may seem like a new way of approaching digital workflow, the concept of a design system is not “new” to creative industries. At the core of any design system is a language of design patterns that solve common problems a designer might face. Design Patterns are not analysis patterns, are not descriptionsof common structures like linked lists, nore are they detailed applicationor framework designs.

The 10 Best Reusable Grocery Bags That Are Sturdy And Sustainable

The terminology used should be easily understood cross-functionally. A digital product design language is usually a cross-functional resource with the goal of improving workflow efficiency and collaboration for teams. This holistic perspective emphasizes a systematic way of thinking about design workflows, and it allows a design language to be easily applied when solving specific problems. The state pattern is used to alter the behaviour of an object as its internal state changes. The pattern allows the class for an object to apparently change at run-time.

Kellogg cites a study by the Environment Agency that says a cotton bag must be used 131 times to have less of a global impact than a single-use plastic bag. The tote’s design is straightforward—one large pocket with two long handles—but you can take it anywhere, even in inclement weather, and it lasts for years. The Nook Theory Better Days bag is insulated with thermal foam to keep food and beverages cool.

Analysis Patterns: Reusable Object Models

The facade pattern is used to define a simplified interface to a more complex subsystem. A decorator allows to add behavior to an individual object, either statically or dynamically, without affecting the behavior of other objects from the same class. The Interpreter Pattern represents a grammar as a class hierarchy and implements an interpreter as an operation on instances of classes.

Plus, it comes in so many bright colors and patterns that it’s hard to forget on your way out the door. The handles are large enough to slide over your shoulder and the bag can be tucked into the included pouch when not in use. Customers can purchase a single BeeGreen bag or a more cost-effective set, ranging from two to 12 bags. Rather than composing interfaces or implementations, structural patterns describe ways to compose objects to realize new functionality.

Sure, there will be some new tools for connecting and managing complexities, but ultimately, it is a shift to a holistic mindset that will truly help improve workflows. The idea of a pattern language originated from architecture and urban design over 40 years ago and can be applied to just about any design discipline. The interpreter pattern is used to define the grammar for instructions that form part of a language or notation, whilst allowing the grammar to be easily extended.

The Steele Canvas Utility Tote blends durable materials with a multi-functional design, making it handy for all sorts of errands. It’s constructed from duck canvas, which is heavier and more tightly woven than regular canvas, and there are four leather segments to support the handles and shoulder strap. That leads to a high price but ensures you’ll get years of use out of the bag.

65 Best White Room Ideas How to Decorate with White

white interior design

While most of these interiors also feature some colour, what unites them is their bright white walls and mostly wooden floors. The lack of paintings and other wall hangings could have felt cold and sparse, but instead creates an almost monastic, peaceful feeling. Here's proof that white walls don't have to mean a neutral color palette. It's where you spend time relaxing and unwinding, so your living room design should be a reflection of your personality and help ease your mind after a long day. If you prefer a modern living room, consider a neutral color palette (think white and off-white paired with beige, gray and black), natural textures and open layouts. But, a white living room doesn't have to look minimal — the right accents can give you an eclectic design, boho style or farmhouse feel.

Enhance space with an all-white bathroom

The beauty of a neutral scheme is that it provides a wonderful scaffold upon which to hang accents of color, adds Deborah Bass, founder of Base Interior. If you want to create an elegant and timeless accent or feature wall, then look to colors found in nature. Decorating with white can leave spaces feeling stark and cold – to combat this, introduce subtle variations in tone to bring life and depth. This white kitchen is anything but boring thanks to its use of subtle texture and layering. There are so many ways to decorate with white – and many of them are quite surprising.

This works well in large, light-filled dining rooms like this one, paired with contrasting black accents and richly pigmented natural materials for a modern look, including wooden floors. Add visual interest through your dining table décor ideas and pops of color through artwork and objects. Take advantage of natural light by pairing large windows with bright walls, white furniture and an acrylic coffee table that allows sunshine to pass through it. We love how Collected Interiors sprinkles in subtle patterns with throw pillows, rugs and wall art.

If you want to stick to an all-white color scheme, there are certain things to keep in mind. Ensure there are details that can bring dimension and intrigue to keep things from looking boring. In particular, details like ornate railings or arched windows can help make the space looking regal and sophisticated. When dealing with a smaller space, white dećor and design can always lend a helping hand.
